Ford enlisted the help of Shelby to bring the GT500 back for the 2020 model year. No longer battling among mere muscle cars, the range-topping version of the last-generation Mustang brought the fight to legitimate supercars; it notably posted a faster lap time around the Virginia International Raceway than the Lamborghini Huracán Evo during Car and Driver’s 2021 Lightning Lap competition.
Power comes from a hand-built 5.2-liter supercharged “Predator” V8, rated at 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
